safeTALK is a half-day training in suicide alertness.
It helps participants recognise a person with thoughts of suicide, instils confidence to start a conversation and explains how to get the person to a connection that can help them keep safe.
It’s estimated 1 in 5 of us have thoughts of suicide.
Now more than ever we need our community to be alert to suicide. safeTALK training by the Hector’s House team offers you the chance to become aware of the risk that someone you know might be thinking of taking their own life – and will equip you with the confidence and the skills to help that person keep safe.
Our trainer Sarah, alongside a support resource, will take you through this internationally recognised training course in a way that is safe, relaxed and comfortable.
During our training together, you will learn the T-A-L-K method:
Talk
Ask
Listen
Keep Safe
We believe that as many people as possible should learn these skills. By attending safeTALK, you are making your community more suicide safe. You might save a life.
I felt that the training provided me with the confidence and tools to approach the issue/subject of suicide. It also taught me how one question could save a life.
Excellent training about how things escalate but also how we can actively de-escalate and give support.
Really interesting, thorough and easy to understand. Very down to earth, some interesting (and surprising) statistics and such an important topic. I definitely feel equipped to ask the question and to be okay with the answer.
Very informative and sensitively presented. Provided valuable tools and strategies for dealing with a potential suicide
Sarah was personable and relatable and made me feel at ease during the whole of the training. Very powerful training and I learnt a lot.
