HGMC May 2026: Bat & Chat
First off, I’d like to extend huge thank you to Chris, who was our facilitator for the evening and who took on most of the responsibility for booking a venue and organising the additional facilitators. We have worked with Chris, before and found his approach and demeanour perfectly in line with our own values. Chris’ love for cricket is contagious. He was practically vibrating for the entire evening and his enthusiasm rapidly spread through the group.

We were very lucky that after a week of scorching sun, there was a little bit of cloud cover this evening. We gathered up in the shade and ran through our normal check in process. Once we had everybody accounted for, we handed over to Chris, who ensured everyone felt comfortable to begin. What followed was essentially a very rapid-fire game of cricket. We all took it in turns to make our way round the pitch, fielding each spot and playing an over as batter or bowler. We had been sorted into batting pairs and the highest scoring two pairs played an extra over each to determine a winner. We witnessed a few dramatic dives, some of which paid off for catches. Equal parts wide bowls and strong hits that found the boundary. All in all, it was a great evening messing about on the green.

The aim of Hector’s Gentle-Man’s Club is to get men together and engaging in something that gets them out of their heads and into the present. As always, we wound the evening up by giving each person some time and space to focus on gratitude and what we can do for our mental fitness in the coming days.
